A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed His head and gave up His spirit.  John 19:29-30
For certain it was a gruesome sight, Jesus on the Cross, broken and almost unrecognizable to those who loved Him the most. Even some of His enemies may have felt a twinge of sympathy as His own mother Mary, at the foot of the cross, cried for her Son. What a bitter scene, just as bitter as the wine on that branch of hyssop held to Jesus’ own mouth. Regardless of the bitterness, Jesus took of the sour wine! Regardless of the bitterness of the Cross, Jesus took the Cross! Regardless of bitterness and the harshness of life, will you take up your cross and follow Him? He, who was willing to take on the bitterness of sin, bought for us freedom from sin saying, “It is finished.” Why wouldn’t anyone want to follow someone so courageous and beautiful as Jesus? He is not dead, He is Arisen!

With Much Love,
Pastor Chris
Reaching out together to make disciples who love, serve, and grow in Christ.
